New for 2009 a series of Gourmet Dinners at the Five Arrows Hotel, inspired by the fashionable European cities visited by an 18th century Grand Tour tourist. The evening begins at 6.45pm with an aperitif and canapés, and is followed at 7pm by a four course meal with three different wines.

Sunday 28 June: FLORENCE - Art and Architecture was the draw, Tuscan food and wine; Chianti, Vin Santo

Sunday 26 July: ROME - the high point of the tour recipes from Central Italy, and wines from Umbria and Montepulciano

Sunday 30 August: NAPLES - the ruins of Pompeii were a must, Neapolitan dishes, wines from Camania and Sicily

Sunday 27 September: VERONA - we head back north with a stop near Lake Garda, for is food and the wines of Soave, Bardolino, Vapolicella

Sunday 25 October: VENICE - Venetian recipes and wines from Piave and Friuli

Sunday 29 November: ATHENS - a few intrepid travellers prolonged their stay in Europe by travelling further, to Greece. This evening gives a taste of some classic Greek dishes and wines.

Sunday 27 December: VIENNA - The way home lay through the German speaking areas of Northern Europe. We stop in Vienna for some historical Austrian dishes matched with some exellent wines from Willi Opitz
