Shopaholics beware - the desire to admire and acquire was a strong in the 18th-century as it is today. This day, inspired by our exhibition on trade cards, explores how these humble bits of paper give us an unrivalled look at how and where people shopped and what they bought.

Curators Phillippa Plock, Selma Schwartz and Rachel Boak will introduce the exhibition and look at some of the luxury "must have" objects for wealthy consumers.
