UPDATE AND FEEDBACK FROM MADD 2008

A BIG thank you to all who attended this years MADD about Waddesdon festival, nearly 14,000 of you over the weekend!

The feedback has been amazing with a great time had by all. The acts and the atmosphere were terrific and even the great British weather didn't let us down, we can't wait to start planning for 2009!

A new addition to MADD, was the involvement of The Academy of Culinary Arts. We ran a Cookery and 'Design a Plate' competition for both Primary and Secondary schools.

The winners of the 'Design a Healthy Plate (5 A Day)' competition were carefully selected by the chefs from the Academy on Sunday afternoon - Congratulations to:

Jake Tebbutt, Waddesdon Village Primary School  Miles Simms, Waddesdon
Village Primary School
Sophia Cliffe, Waddesdon Village Primary School

Teams from Curzon C of E Combined School, Grendon Underwood, Swanbourne and Waddesdon Village Primary School all competed to win the prize of 'Winner of the Primary School Cookery' competition.

All the dishes were inventive and well presented. It was a tough contest for the judges but 'The Moles' from Waddesdon Village Primary were crowned the winners by John Williams, MBE (Head Chef from the Ritz). Their dishes were Smiley Face Salad and Moles Puddung. Well done to 'The Moles' (Megan Baker, Oliver Waddon, Lewis Partridge and Shelby Robertston) our first winners of MAD!

We were overwhelmed with entries for the Secondary School Competition, and Waddesdon's team of chefs had the unenviable task of selecting the top twelve teams to go through to the semi-finals of the competition on Sunday 29 June.

The twelve lucky teams were from Aylesbury High, Wye Valley, Cressex Community, Quarrendon and Waddesdon Church of England School, and their task was to prepare and present a healthy salad and dessert for the judges at MAD. Four teams were then selected to compete in the final, where they were asked to prepare a dish from a box of mystery ingredients!

The finalists were two teams from Aylesbury High, one from Wye Valley and the other from Cressex Community and they all battled it out in front of the judges for the prize. Benoit Blin, Head Pastry Chef at Le Manoir deemed Team E from Aylesbury High School the Winners!!

Please keep checking back for photos and a video of the MADD weekend and remember to put the MADD date in your diary for 2009 - Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June 2009.

We hope to see you again next year.

The MADD Team!!

FEEDBACK FROM 2008

"We thought we would just drop you a quick line, to thank you, and everyone involved in the organising of the weekend for MADD. Everything seemed to go very smoothly, and whilst Rowan admitted she was "terrified" at the start of her performance, she thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and would like to have a similar opportunity next year! Regards,"
Wendy Peter & Rowan Carter

"Just a short note to say thanks for the opportunity to exhibit at Waddesdon this weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed the exhausting experience! Hope you all had a good nights sleep on Sunday".
Steve Sheen, Pauline Quirke Academy

"Just a quick e-mail to say a big thank you from both my team; Nicky Short, Patrick Rufey and myself, together with the performers from DFL Musical Theatre, Dance and Drama for Life for giving us all an opportunity to perform yesterday. It was great to sing on the main Orbit stage to such an appreciative audience and have the supportive back-up of the excellent crew. Our drama section was placed on the more intimate Bandstand and duly receive positive feedback from parents and public alike. A great day - please put us down for next year!"
Coral Ash, The DFL Group

"Just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you so much for inviting us to perform in the Festival again - it was brilliant! Also, can you feed back to the technical team that our technicians were amazing. They were friendly, helpful and worked really hard to get it right for our kids, so a huge thank you to them too. Many thanks!"
Claire-Louise, Buckingham Primary School

"You must be feeling 'madder' than ever today after such a successful weekend. Huge thanks for the opportunity and for looking after Idris, Adam and Alix. They thoroughly enjoyed your hospitality. I do hope that we may do it again next year. I certainly enjoyed my short stay and will make sure that if we do come back I will make it a whole weekend."
Sarah Jayne Stanes OBE, The Academy of Culinary Arts

"Just to say I thought that this years MADD was excellent and was superbly organised. The stage team were fantastic. I also thought it was great that you even organised the right weather. Thanks again for giving our students the chance to play at such an event. They really thrive on such opportunities. All the best,"
Keith Muggerridge, Waddesdon Church of England School

"Thank you so much for the fantastic event you organised on Sunday. All 28 of my girls enjoyed themselves thoroughly! It gave them all a unique opportunity to express all their enthusiasm for food and cookery! I too had a great day - thank you. Kind regards,"
Lucette Torbet and the AHS A-G teams!, Aylesbury High School

"Thank you so much for such an incredible experience on the Saturday of MADD! We were about 20 people in all, and everyone was amazed at the beauty of the whole event. It was so exciting for the children to be up on a huge stage in front of such a friendly audience. I am sure that next year, we will all spread the word even more. What an imaginative, important thing to do for this wider community! How marvellous to give this experience to our children! Thank you to all of you, who organised MADD, and who obviously believe in it. The Manor has happy thoughts associated with it - that's for sure! Thank you, thank you, thank you."
Elaine English, for Cuddington Youth Drama (CYD)

"Fantastic day! We had a brilliant time, thank you ever so much for all your help in the organising. The students were totally thrilled and overwhelmed by the response they got from people. They didn't win, but were offered master class sessions at Waddesdon in February and so felt really special. They are talking about next year already! Hope you have a well deserved rest! Best wishes,"
Ru Rees, Cressex Community School

"Just wanted to thank you for a very enjoyable day. Holmer Green Swing Band had a great time! See you next year."
Jane Phillips, Holmer Green Senior School

"I hope you enjoyed the MADD weekend. I spoke to a number of different colleagues at the Buckinghamshire Healthy Schools conference last week who were full of praise for the weekend. A teacher from Cressex School in High Wycombe was absolutely deslighted with the success that pupils from her school achieved in one of your competitions. In fact, she created a display of their work, with photographs, from MADD to showcase their success. Congratulations on the success of your weekend."
Wendy Smith, Health Schools Consultant, Buckinghamshire Health Schools Team
