THE YEAR IN THE GARDEN
 |
January
Discover the stark beauty of the garden in January on a frosty morning. Leafless trees lift their bare limbs to the sky as if in anticipation of the spring to come. Enjoy a winter walk in the garden and warming refreshments in the restaurant.
February
See the beauty of the garden in winter. Snowdrops are beginning to appear and by the end of the month they are out in profusion along the Baron's Walk and in the Tulip Patch. The fountains and sculpture are shrouded, protecting them from frosts.
March
Scillas are flowering and colour is creeping into the spring bedding displays. Early daffodils also begin to show colour.
April
The spring bedding is in full flower. The Parterre is predominantly red and gold, with thousands of red Tulips, whilst the Aviary gardens is planted with white Polyanthus, Daisies, and Pansies. Lemon Tulips complete the scheme. Daffodil Valley and Tay Bridge are also in full bloom.
May
The spring bedding is removed and replaced with summer bedding. Bluebells and Lily-of-the-Valley are flowering well at this time and the trees look spectacular and fresh with their new leaves.
June
3D carpet bedding sculpture can be seen at the entrance to the Aviary gardens. The Rose Garden is in full flower and full flower and the air heady with fragrance.
July/August
The summer bedding is at its best.
September
The bedding should continue to look beautiful, particularly the exotic plants on the Tropical Mound. The autumn crocus are in flower below the Parterre and the tree ferns are well worth a visit.
October
The summer bedding is removed to make way for the spring planting. The autumn colours are a great attraction now.
November/December
The garden appears to go to sleep, but there is still a lot to see. Autumn colour continues to glow in November and Christmas trees with thousands of lights illuminate the grounds. The fountains and sculpture are once again covered to protect them from frost during the winter months.
