Welcome to Waddesdon

Escape to the countryside and spend a perfect day out at Waddesdon, once the country home of the Rothschilds.

Waddesdon is a French Renaissance-style château in the heart of Buckinghamshire. Set in a 6,000 acres estate, it was built in the 1870s by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to house his art treasures and entertain the fashionable world. His collection of English and Dutch paintings and French decorative arts is amongst the finest in the world and can be seen today within the Manor’s richly decorated interiors.

To secure its future, Waddesdon was left to the National Trust in 1957. The Rothschild Foundation now manages Waddesdon on behalf of the National Trust, and has continued to add to the collections, with both 18th-century and contemporary art.

Today, focal points in the garden include an iconic Victorian-style Parterre - famed for its colourful seasonal bedding, an ornate Rococo-style Aviary - conserving rare birds, Pulham rockwork and 3D bird bedding sculptures that are examples of the Rothschild’s pioneering gardening.

Group visits

Our group prices apply to groups of 15 or more. If applicable, each member of your group must bring valid membership cards on the day of their visit. All group bookings must be confirmed and paid for in full at least two weeks in advance, with our groups team. To enquire about booking or if you have any queries, please contact:

To guarantee your group rate all visits must be booked in advance. If you arrive on the day you will be charged at our standard rate.

Coach Parking

Parking is £20 per coach per day. Coaches can park near the North Fountain, which is only a short walk to the Manor. This includes a meet & greet service, free grounds admission and a refreshment voucher for the coach driver.

There is a free coach drop-off option available.

Special Tours

House Tour – A guided tour of the House is available between 11am – 12pm. Discover more about the history of the Rothschild family, Waddesdon Manor and its incredible collection. Prices from £12 per person (1 guide per group of 15 people).

Garden Tour – A guided tour of the Gardens and can include an introduction to the house, the seasonal flowers featured, the beautiful Parterre, North Front, Aviary, Rose Garden and Tulip Patch. Prices from £8 per person (1 guide up to a group of 30 people)

Indulge yourself in a 2 or 3 course meal in the Manor restaurant. With savoury meals and sweet treats all carefully curated by our team of talented chefs.

Cream tea

Enjoy a cream tea from the Manor restuarant to unwind from your journey, before exploring the beautiful, landscaped gardens.

Afternoon Tea

Make your visit to Waddesdon extra special by booking an Afternoon Tea. Little is more luxurious than enjoying a slice of the British tradition of afternoon tea, in the setting of the historic Manor Restaurant.

Wine at Waddesdon

A perfect destination for lovers of wine, our wine packages offer an opportunity to see one of the largest collections of Château Lafite Rothschild wines outside France. Take a tour of the cellars, let us guide you as you taste eight Rothschild and guest wines, marvel at wine-inspired works of art and enjoy sharing deli boards.

Bordeaux and Beyond

Our Bordeaux and beyond package showcases eight Rothschild wines, four of which derive from Bordeaux and four from New World vineyards. Consisting of three white wines and five reds, this tasting provides the guests with a broad spectrum of wines of impeccable quality.

Rothschild Classics

Rothschild classics is our finest tasting experience. Consisting of eight wines, two white and six red, Rothschild classics boasts the cream of the Rothschild portfolio. Legendary and iconic wines from France, Chile and the USA are tasted side by side making for a truly memorable wine tasting.

Joana Vasconcelos: Wedding Cake tours

The Wedding Cake is a 12-metre-tall ceramic sculptural pavilion in the form of a three-tiered cake and a major new Rothschild Foundation commission from celebrated Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. Your group can step inside this astonishing work of art on a 45-minute guided tour and enjoy a unique, richly sensory experience. After the tour, you’ll have the chance to explore the collection of contemporary sculpture in the Water Garden at the Dairy including Lafite, Vasconcelos’ magnificent sculpture in the form of two giant candlesticks made of wine bottles.
